Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a script from my doctor before making an appointment?

No need for a script to see us at Mejia Physical Therapy and Wellness. We are able to treat direct access in the state of Florida. This means that the first 21days of PT with us does not require a Physician script. After 21 days, a script will be needed to continue therapy. In cases where a serious medical issue is discovered, an immediate referral to a physician will be made.

How often do I need to have PT?

This mostly depends on your specific problem. For more acute conditions it may be better to see your PT a couple times a week, for chronic conditions usually 1x/wk will suffice. For our rehabilitation services a typical amount of visits with physical therapy is on average less than 7 visits, 1-2x/wk depending on the diagnosis and goals. If you are seeking our services for wellness, maintenance or for one of our specialized programs, you decide on a frequency that meets your needs.

Do you take insurance?

Mejia Physical Therapy and Wellness is an out of network provider and does not accept payment from or bill any insurance company except for Medicare. We are an in network provider for Medicare Part B and bill electronically as is customary. All Medicare patients are treated according to Medicare guidelines. For all other patients, we accept payment at the time of service. By not accepting insurance, we are able to spend more time with our clients, translating to fewer visits and similar if not fewer associated costs to insurance based/ traditional PT. The business model necessary to support an insurance-based physical therapy practice does not support the treatment model that will be most effective for our clients. We treat you based on your needs and not by a predetermined schedule.

Will my insurance company reimburse me?

In many cases your insurance company will reimburse you for rehabilitation services. It depends on your specific insurance plan and whether you have out-of-network benefits. Mejia Physical Therapy and Wellness recommends that you contact your insurance provider to see how much your out-of-network benefits and co-insurance amounts are for PT. If you wish to seek insurance reimbursement, Mejia Physical Therapy and Wellness will gladly provide you with detailed receipts with the needed insurance information so you can submit a claim.  Those with Medicare will have their claims submitted by our office as is done in a traditional office

How should I submit my claim to my insurance company?

For most insurances you should be able to find a claim form on their website, print it out and submit it along with detailed receipts that we will provide for you. The amount you will be reimbursed is dependent on your insurance company. If you call them be sure to ask about, “Out-Of-Network benefits for Physical Therapy”.

What if I have Medicare, Medicaid, Motor Vehicle, or Work Comp?

At this time we are only able to provide skilled physical therapy treatment to Medicare beneficiaries. Due to changes with the Affordable Care Act, it is unlawful for us to receive direct payment from Medicare members for skilled physical therapy. We can however provide Wellness services to Medicare members, as they would not otherwise be covered by your insurance. We do not file claims directly with your Motor Vehicle Accident Insurance or Workman’s’ Compensation Insurance, and we suggest contacting your case manager for further details.

Will my insurance plan reimburse me for your wellness services ( Exercise/Fitness, Prevention)?

They may, as the Affordable Care Act has made provision to include wellness services in insurance plans. But you will need to contact your insurance company directly to see if they will reimburse you directly.

Mejia Physical Therapy and Wellness is not a participating provider with any insurance plan except for Medicare. Why? The current insurance-based model continues to get more restrictive and it has become more difficult for us to provide the level of care that we believe is  needed. Since Mejia Physical Therapy and Wellness started out as a Medicare provider, we will continue to gladly serve our senior population that carry Medicare Part B.
